I grew up painting and drawing since I was three. after entering college at Washington State Unniversity I started carving in stone. After two and a half years at WSU I transferred to Cornish of the Fine Arts in Seattle, Wa. I am self taught as a stone carver with help along the way. 20 years later I have found my soul as a carver. I am one with the rock and I give it life in a new form. You can find my works currently at Chuckanut Gallery just south of Bellingham, Wa., Matzke Fine Art Gallery on Camano Island, Wa. and White Bird Gallery in Cannon Beach, Or. I have been featured in several shows in Oregon and a featured artist in Southwest Art Magazine. Camano Island Library showcases my juried public sculpture. I have workshops for the adventure seeker would wants to learn how to carve stone. Please contact me with any questions you may have about my artwork. Looking forward to hearing from you!
My Focus is Stone and all it’s boundaries. Large scale sculptures is my specialty but I still carve smaller sculptures for the home. I work with 3D, relief and etchings all in stone.
My inspiration lies in my surroundings. I’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest my whole life and I feel its heart beat. I capture life wether it be owls, nature or in human form. I feel there is a bond with the land and the locals that live here. I express through stone a glimpse of life, reality and what it could be in the future. Using texture, contrast and detailed finished areas, showing the history of the stone and the object I’m carving. Co existing is a big part in my art work. A positive message in a chaotic world is what I strive for in every piece.
